Documents for marriage in Turkey
In order to arrange a marriage with a Turkish citizen in a state body – Nüfus ve Nikah Idaresi, you will need the following documents:
- A marriage license or a certificate stating that you are not married. This document is issued by the consulate of your country. Upon receipt of the certificate, immediately take two copies, since one can be picked up by Belediye (district administration). In Ukraine, this certificate is issued by a notary. Find out which authority in your country is authorized to issue it.
- For those who are divorced, a divorce certificate is required, an archival certificate from the relevant authorities or a court decision (depends on when and in which country you divorced)
- A certificate from your future spouse, a Turkish citizen, stating that he (she) is not married and has no obstacles to his conclusion – Evlenme Ehliyet Belgesi. This certificate is issued at the place of residence, in an instance that is analogous to the passport office – Nüfüs Idaresi
- Your birth certificates.
- A certificate of the state of health of your and your future spouse. It is issued after blood tests for hepatitis, HIV infection, and tuberculosis. This certificate must be certified by the seal of the state clinic. Having health problems is not an obstacle to marriage. By law, future spouses must be aware of each other’s health status.
- Your passport.
- Identity card (kimlik) of a Turkish citizen
- Photos for medical reference and for Nüfus ve Nikah Idaresi. There are only 6 pieces.
- You will also be required to have an envelope for (Evlenme zarfı), which you can buy at the stationery store.
All documents of foreigners must be translated into Turkish. They must have an apostille affixed to them.
The marriage takes place at the place of registration of a Turkish citizen. The state fee is paid on the spot and the date of marriage registration is set. After registration, which takes place in the presence of two witnesses, you will be given a Marriage Certificate (Aile Cüzdanı).
