Restrictions on traveling from Russia to Georgia by car have been lifted
The decree of the Government of the Russian Federation N763-r dated March 27, 2020 amended subparagraph 14, which was approved by the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation N1175-r dated May 14, 2022 that temporary restrictions on movement across the land border of the Russian Federation should not be applied without reason to citizens leaving the Russian Federation for Georgia.
The border to Georgia for tourists to cross was closed in March 2020 due to the pandemic. They were released only for good reasons, for example, for treatment that cannot be provided by Russian healthcare, for caring for sick relatives or funerals, having a residence permit, citizenship or real estate in a third country, working with a foreign employer, to close relatives living abroad.
Previously, it was possible to travel by land without having grounds to South Ossetia, Kazakhstan, Abkhazia, Belarus and Mongolia. Now China and Georgia have been added to the list.
To enter Georgia by car, you will need a vaccination certificate, including Satellite V or a PCR coronavirus test done no later than 72 hours.
However, there are cases when the Georgian side does not allow all Russian citizens to enter Georgia, but selectively. In particular, the Upper Lars FB group writes that Georgians deploy tourists who look like Muslims (with a beard or a headscarf). What this may be related to is anyone’s guess, since there is no official information on restricting entry to Georgia for Russians, and the official refusal paper says that it was refused for other reasons. Russian tourists are also selectively deployed on the Georgian border from Turkey.
